Engineer I - Materials

Job Summary

Coordinating with various internal departments & external suppliers, assist the selection, approval, use, and life span of materials in the UGI distribution system.  Provide supporting technical advice on replacement or alternate solutions regarding construction material concerns.  Track and log material failures for tracking and submission to Federal, State and Industry organizations.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Assist in the standardization of materials and equipment, including review & comparison of specifications, performance & functional testing, and implementation.  Chair the inter-company materials committee for quarterly review of current topics
  • Maintain and monitor the materials specification catalog, the virtual valve catalog, and approval database
  • Provide supporting diagrams, schematics, and lists for Gas Operations Manual & Engineering Design Manual
  • Review, Audit, & Record material failure reports submitted by installation crews.  Evaluate returned failures for quality defects or possible recurrence, which may include internal or laboratory analysis.  Submission of such reports to the appropriate external agency as required by governing bodies (PHMSA, AGA PPDC & PA PUC)
  • Assist the Purchasing Dept. in the bid process by providing alternate supplier options.  Monitor & assure supplier quality
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as requested.  This includes internal and external training sessions, company sponsored safety and vendor events, applicable committees/conferences, traveling to supplier or manufacturer sponsored locations, committee gatherings, & construction field visits
  • Familiarity with national and international engineering standards organizations (ISO, ASME, ANSI, ASTM, DIN)
  • Proficiency with basic hand tools, as well as knowledge of plastic and steel piping assemblies
  • Superior computer skills (Windows) with MS professional programs.  Knowledge of MS SharePoint is desired
  • Proficiency with 2D drafting software such as AutoCad is required. Knowledge of Oracle E-Business a plus
  • Strong interpersonal relationship acumen.  Ability to communicate effectively (& accurately) to individuals from various backgrounds, in person & electronically

 

 

Working Conditions

  • Office/Indoor setting is the most common for this position.  Outdoor Field visits are occasionally required 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering, Science, or Technology field
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • EIT (State license) strongly encouraged
